The season came to an end for the Cowanesque Valley Indians with a 37-13 loss at Otto-Eldred on Friday, but for one Cowanesque Valley player it was a memorable night.
Evan McCall ran for one touchdown and caught another on Friday night. The Indians senior gained 120 yards on the ground, giving him 1,030 rushing yards this year. McCall is the first Cowanesque Valley player, since the program was re-established in 2004, to rush for over 1,000 yards.

SAYRE - It was one of those games where one big play could win or lose the game for you. On a cold November night, Athens Senior quarterback, Colin Eby caught fire and led his team to a thrilling 12-6 victory over the Sayre Redskins. The Wildcats marched into Sayre hoping to claim the Rusty Rail on rivalry night.
Athens came up with a big play on the opening kickoff by recovering a Redskin fumble. Sayre dug deep and held Athens on their first drive. The defenses for both teams continued to dominate through the entire first quarter and much of the second, keeping the offenses out of the end zone. However, one big play would put Athens ahead. Eby tossed the ball to Garrett Swingle. Swingle then launched the ball downfield for a 25-yard touchdown to Senior Dan Riley with just under 30 seconds left in the second quarter. Sayre went to a knee to end the half and knew they had to continue to keep fighting.

TROY - Things haven't gone exactly as planned for the Canton Warriors this year.
Injuries and late losses have cost Canton at times, but on Friday night they ended the year just the way they started it, with a victory.
The Warriors used a strong defensive effort to pound out a 22-0 victory over the rival Troy Trojans in the annual Old Shoe Game.
"Despite a loss last week to Blossburg, the kids played the best they have all season in these last two games," Canton coach Miller Moyer Jr. said. "They played hard and played their hearts out all season. It is a fine line from us being a 9-1 team and a 5-5 team. It is a game of inches and it is hard when you play well, but sometimes just run out of steam at the end."

BLOSSBURG - Wellsboro and North Penn weren't playing for an old shoe or a golden helmet. They were playing for the pristine Morton F. Jones Memorial Trophy. Pristine? The game was anything but pristine. The 55-0 Panther victory featured brutal hits and was marred by unsportsmanlike penalties and ejected players. But what do you expect in a hardcore rivalry?
On the opening kickoff, the Hornets' Ryan Moss returned the ball to the Panthers' 39 and things looked good for Wellsboro. Maybe that's the only time things looked good for Wellsboro. The Hornets failed to capitalize and turned the ball over on downs.

TOWANDA - The Towanda Black Knights wrapped up their undefeated regular season and assured themselves of home field advantage throughout the District 4 playoffs by hammering the Wyalusing Rams 31-0 Friday night in the traditional Bronze Helmet game. Both Dakota Roof and Travis Chesla ran for over 100 yards and scored a rushing touchdown, while Roof also passed to Cody Miller for one score, kicked a field goal, and was flawless on four extra point kicks. Towanda's remaining touchdown came on a run by Kodi Thompson.

The area's top runners head down to Hershey for the PIAA Cross Country Championships today.
Among those running in the meet will be the Northeast Bradford boys' team, who won the district title last week.
The Panthers had four runners who were within 15 seconds of each other - Jake Balchikonis, Curt Jewett, Kent Upham and Devin Middaugh, and their fifth runner, Sam Williams, was within a minute of the first runner on the team.

HERSHEY - The Haggerty sisters PIAA run ended Friday as Meredith and Melinda lost to York Catholic's Ava and Anna Spoden 6-2 and 6-3 in AA girls' doubles tennis action.
Regardless of the loss, the sisters are still happy.
"It was great" Meredith said about being able to play at states, "It was my goal. I was glad I got to do it. It was my dream."
Meredith was also thrilled about finishing her career with her sister.
