TOWANDA — The Black Knights improved to 6-1 on the season as they picked up a 48-17 home victory over Tunkhannock on Friday in a matchup of schools from District 4 and District 2.

The game started with a back-and-forth struggle for the upper hand.

Tunkhannock got off to the quick start as it scored nine straight points to open the game with the Tigers getting a field goal, followed by a quick first-quarter touchdown.

The Black Knights answered back with a score of their own as Travis Chesla got a touchdown, making the score 9-7 with only six minutes gone in the first quarter.

A fumble by the Knights led to another Tiger touchdown, but another Chesla score with 8:06 left in the half and Dakota Roof’s extra point put the score up to 14-9, Towanda.

The Tigrs answered right back on the kickoff return taking it to the end-zone. Then with 6:53 left in the half quarterback Dakota Roof connected with senior Matt Ogden on a 76-yard touchdown strike.

With 2:31 Roof took it in himself and with 11 seconds left in the half the quarterback took the ball into the end zone again, making the score 34-17 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter the Black Knights got two more scores from Roof to cap the victory.

"This was a huge win for us," said Towanda coach Craig Dawsey. "Coming back like that was really good. It will give us the momentum for Athens next week."

Senior captain Jesse Chesla felt that "we played a solid game in our home environment. We’re really looking forward to pounding on Athens."

Towanda racked up 289 yards on the ground, while Roof also had 152 yards through the air on the day. Tunkhannock had a solid ground game with 139 yards rushing.
