Write-in candidate may be next Ulster tax collector
Although Bradford County's election results Tuesday were for the most part routine there were a few surprises from the polls.
In Ulster Township, for example, a write-in candidate may be the next local tax collector.
According to unofficial results provided by the Bradford County Board of Elections, Susan Layman received approximately 69 write-in votes on Election Day in Ulster Township for the tax collector's position.

Here are the vote tallies for candidates in Bradford County who faced no ballot opposition in Tuesday's election. These candidates ran for county, municipal or school board positions.
A (R) denotes someone who ran on the Republican ticket; a (D), someone who ran on the Democratic ticket. The listing doesn't include write-in candidates. Official tallies for write-in candidates won't be available until the county's official vote canvass has been completed, which is expected to occur next week.

Tea party planned at Spalding Memorial Library
As part of the Big Read program, the Spalding Memorial Library will be hosting a children's tea party from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the library, according to a press release.

The Sayre Public Library is coordinating the Big Read program in the Valley and is focusing the program on "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck and the Great Depression in general.

Cargill Salt, Watkins Glen, has teamed up with the local Five Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America, by being a major sponsor for this year's Scouting for Food Program, the largest single food drive in the Twin Tiers, with close to 200 Packs and Troops participating. Cargill contributed $3,900 towards the printing cost of this year's informational door hanger.
On Saturday, Nov. 7, Scouts will distribute the hangers to local residents. The hanger explains the Scouting for Food program and gives instruction asking residents to place canned goods in a grocery bag and put it out on their front porch for pick up.

Woman charged with theft
A Laceyville woman accused of stealing $1,400 in coins has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Catherine Marie Lane, 27, was charged by state police with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and unsworn falsification to authorities.
Police reported that Lane has been accused of stealing $1,400 in U.S. coins from the residence of Wade E. Brewer on Feb. 27, 2009.

Concert tonight in Troy
Vincenzo Mignano's concert piano solo featuring the Troy High School Select Choir under the direction of John Wile will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Troy High School auditorium. According to a flier, the scheduled program will begin with an opening act of choral singers singing a few numbers with Mignano then presenting a variety-filled piano solo concert starting with classical favorites by Chopin and Debussy as well as popular jazz pieces, including Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue." The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

TROY - Wayne Beeman, the new art teacher at Troy Middle School, loves his new job.
"In my life, I've heard about others expressing their feelings about how they are working their dream jobs," he said. "I didn't know if such a thing would ever happen to me. Today, I can honestly say that I'm in a position of my dream job. From the first day, I've had a blast. Three of my most passionate endeavors are drawing, computer technology, and kids. On a daily basis, I'm able to be active in all three of these areas. On my worst day, it's still a great day at the Troy Middle School."
