Athens schools' future business leaders look to new year with excitment

The Athens Area High School (AAHS) Future Business Leaders of American (FBLA) officer team is excited about the upcoming school year. The officers are President Krista Smith, Vice-President Hannah Harvey-Sampson, Secretary Anna Vine, Treasurer Mike Bernett, Parliamentarian Aaron Harris, and Reporter Meagan Nowacoski.
The team has set numerous goals including: 80 members in our local chapter; 300 hours of combined community service hours; a fourth-straight Top Chapter Award at the Regional Leadership Conference; 35 members achieving the State Leadership Conference in various competitive events; and at least two members achieving the National Conference in Nashville.
The first fundraising event will be held Sunday, Oct. 4, when the AAHS FBLA is holding a 5K run/walk to benefit Habitat for Humanity. The race will start at 1 p.m. at Round Top Park with registration beginning at noon. The entry fee of $20 includes T-shirts for the first 50 registrants, fruit donated by Ted Clark's Busy Market, and water donated by The Nutrition Group at AAHS.
Harvey-Sampson and Bernett are organizing this event as their senior project, in addition to raising funds for the FBLA State Project: Habitat for Humanity. They are hoping that as part of homecoming weekend at Athens, many alumni will come out to enjoy the fall scenery and support a worthy cause. Major sponsors for the event include: Bert's Pharmacy, Guthrie Endovascular and Vascular Surgery, Southern Tier Emergency Physicians, First Citizens National Bank, and ProCare Fitness. Additional sponsors include Shucky's, Sayre Theatre, Beeman's, Howies, and P&C. The AAHS FBLA truly appreciates the support and generosity of these local businesses.
