AAHS students recognized for creativity

Students at Athens Area High School, under the direction of Dr. Andrew Wales, came away with multiple awards and honorable mentions following the recent Scholastic Art Awards program. This competition recognizes the best work of students in New York and Pennsylvania. Student work will be exhibited in The Arnot Art Museum on Lake Street in Elmira, N.Y. Athens students had nine pieces accepted this year: Alexis Harford: Honorable Mention, Painting — Peekaboo!; Erica Hutchison: Silver Key, Drawing and Illustration — Requiem; Erica Hutchison: Gold Key, Painting — The Eye of a Mother; Sydney Liechty: Silver Key, Painting — My Kicks; Matt Nowacoski: Silver Key, Printmaking — Old Ways; Matt Nowacoski: Honorable Mention, Printmaking — Old Ways Newspaper Print; Jeffrey Reagan: Honorable Mention, Drawing and Illustration — Put Me In, Coach!; Suzanna Searles: Honorable Mention, Painting — A Day in the Life; and Felicity Tobbe: Honorable Mention, Drawing and Illustration — Lady of the Dead. Hutchison's Gold Key work will move on to national competition.
