Congressman Carney announces bonus payments for stop-lossed service members

Congressman Christopher P. Carney announced that, effective Oct. 21, special payments are available to more than 185,000 service members who have had their enlistments involuntarily extended since Sept. 11, 2001.
Payments will be $500 for every month service members were held under stop-loss orders. Congress established this payment in the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act enacted this summer.
"As a commander serving in the Navy Reserve, I understand firsthand the sacrifices these brave men and women have had to make to protect our country," Carney said. "These service members have gone above and beyond the call of duty and this special payment is in recognition of the hardship placed on these troops and their families."
The Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay is available to service members who had their enlistment extended or retirement suspended due to Stop Loss between Sept. 11, 2001 and Sept. 30, 2009. Service members from every branch of the military will receive compensation.
Service members may begin submitting their claim for Retroactive Stop Loss Special Payments today. All applications must be submitted to their respective services no later than Oct. 21, 2010. Service members must provide documented proof they were stop-lossed with their claim. For more information please see:

This payment program builds on Congressman Carney's record of supporting our military men and women. Earlier this year he supported legislation to provide funding for veterans hospitals, college education, and military training facilities.
"I came to Congress with the pledge that I would always support our troops," Carney said. "We have the greatest military in the world and we owe them nothing less than our full support for their courage, commitment, and patriotism."
