Letters to the Editor

To all of our valued patrons and friends:
EDITOR: Sadly, Lisa's Little Philly of Wysox, Pa. has been forced to close their doors. We were saddened to have to do this, but were left with no choice. We want to personally thank all of the wonderful people who made our business a success. We would also like to thank the Wysox Chamber of Commerce for their warm and inviting grand opening. It was a great day for us, for the residents of Wysox and for our family. We felt so welcomed into the community.
It was personally difficult for us to close this location because it adversely affected many people's lives. Specifically, several layoffs within the company. This is the hardest part to take because people counted on us to have a job and with this economy life is very difficult.
Again, please accept our gratitude. Our other location (in Sayre) is still thanking everyone for their business and loyalty.
Gary and Lisa Brennan and the staff of Lisa's Little Philly

Carantouan Greenway agrees with sportsmen
EDITOR: The Carantouan Greenway agrees with Sportsmen for Responsible Energy Development. The Federal government must repeal the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act exemptions for oil and gas development under the 2005 Energy Policy Act and other federal legislation. These exemptions come at the expense of safe drinking water and threaten fish and wildlife habitat. These oil and gas loopholes exempt accepting responsibility of supporting bedrock environmental and public health laws.
The Carantouan Greenway and the Sportsmen believe that energy development should be permitted, but only with adequate protection to preserve water resources and fish and wildlife. Both agree that energy companies should use the best available data and implement only the best management practices. Appropriately managed projects can help provide a reliable and substantial economic base for the region for years to come.
The Sportsmen cite many problems that have developed in the Rocky Mountain West due to oil and gas development. Many of the problems have developed from a piece-meal approach rather than considering a cumulative analysis of the full build out of wells and their connectors.
Another problem area is insufficient funding for professional staff to monitor or enforce leases at all levels of government. There must be clearly established monitoring protocols that are enforceable. The public must be kept apprised as to what is happening and how any mitigation is going to be implemented.
Exotic and invasive species must be curtailed and liability for reclamation and restoration must be the responsibility of the oil and gas companies. Our lands and waters are nature's gifts shared by all of us. We have a responsibility to our children and our children's children to see to it that they can inherit a viable, healthy landscape. Fore more information go to www.sportsmen4responsibleenergy.org.

Until wars in Iraq and Afghanistan come to an end ...
EDITOR: I noticed that many of the flags in the area are flying at half mast out of respect for the terrible tragedy that happened at Fort Hood. Almost every day a tragedy occurs in Iraq and Afghanistan. I suggest that flags fly at half-mast until the casualties in our two wars come to an end.

I have been a supporter of Judge Smith, and until some real proof of malfeasance is uncovered, I remain so. I have disagreed with his opinions at times. This present situation with the Crow-Nees, and the Brennans, makes him look foolish at best, as did the internet surfing. Hopefully, he has learned, and will take steps to avoid any further tarnishing of his reputation.
That said, nothing has been proven, which makes him unsuited to be a Judge.
It is not difficult for any reporter to put a spin on a story, which shows the position of the reporter or employer. Advocacy journalism has risen to an art form. The Jury is still out as to whether the Daily Review wishes to discredit the Judge. Altho, it is not unheard of for a newspaper to "go after" a politician, or competitor.
I wish the Brennans well. I hope their business continues to do well. Times are tough, and there are many factors that affect a small business. No side in this landlord/tenant dispute has been well served by the reports in the paper.
The other parties are surely not going to do so. Yes, it is irritating to be made public fodder, but when the letter to the editor appeared, you made yourselves targets. There are no doubt a multitude of reasons, and those are best left for the legal system, not a blog on the Daily Review. Your food was good. The economy is bad. Put it all together it makes for hard times.
Best wishes for the future.
I realize it is kind of a spectator sport to see someone we view as powerful fall, but often the pleasure is short lived. I will be happy to wait for the facts. Sometimes, the truth surprises us.
Taken directly from the field manual regarding flying the state flags;
"When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the right of the flag of the United States (the viewer's left). "
No, exception is made for Texas.
Better polish-up on the positioning of other flags to the Flag of the United States. Yes, you are mostly correct except for one item --- the State flag of Teas can be and for the most part be at the same height as the American flag. Just for your info. this is only state that can do this.
Mr. Gates, and Warren Buffet, support health insurance for all, and both have stated they have no problem paying additional taxes to support this. If Mr. DuPont has the finances that Mr. Gates has, I am sure he can carry proof of financial ability when he enters the hospital. Bill Gates has, and provides, health insurance. We are required to have auto insurance, or proof of financial ability to pay, because of the potential for injury to ourselves, others, and our vehicles. Not once have I heard that as an issue of freedom. We value our vehicles, we understand that an accident can leave us unable to meet our needs, we understand that put others, physically and financially, in jeopardy if we do not have insurance. However, it seems impossible for these oppositionists to grasp, that lack of health insurance endangers ourselves, and puts others at risk. We all pay extra in premiums to covered the losses of medical facilities from the uninsured.
It makes sense to insure all citizens. It makes sense economically, politically, socially, and morally.
The golden rule states, "do unto others as you would have done unto you." If you would not want yourself burdened with debt, causing bankruptcy. If you would not want yourself, to fear taking your child to the doctor or emergency room, because of the bill. If you would not want yourself, to die prematurely because you do not have the means for proper, timely treatment. If you would not want to lose your insurance because of a pre-existing condition. Then why would you want that for your fellow citizen.
Go ahead, call me a bleeding heart liberal. I stand by my ideals, and as a nurse, I am sick of watching the erosion of compassion and empathy. This has nothing to do with freedom, or the lack thereof. This is about our the moral character of our nation.
I am very much behind Chris Carney. He did the right thing. May Bob Casey and Arlen Specter join him.
Now for the Flag, the President ordered it be flown at half-staff on federal buildings. If the governors desire, they can order it to be flown at half-staff on local buildings. Local municipalities may do the same. Any individual who wants can lower their flags, for any reason they deem worthy. It is not proper to ever fly any flag above the United States flag, in this nation. State or other nations flags are to be displayed beneath or on poles lower than the United States flag. When a flag is damaged beyond use, it can be properly burned. Most American Legions or VWF's have regular ceremonies for this. As the daughter, sister, and mother of veterans, flag etiquette, has always been a part of my life. There are rules. Check the internet, or even read the Scouts Manual.
As for the legal troubles of the Mott family, that has been dealt with. I realize many wanted blood, but let us not raise this to the level of a capital crime.
Judge Smith appears to acting silly in his middle age, but nothing illegal from what we can gather. Maybe he needs new friends and new hobbies.
I guessing that the person charged with cocaine possession/sales
would have been provided bail. We can't lock up folks who make bail. It takes a long time for the legal system to reach a verdict. Maybe we should allow the courts to act, and draw no conclusions about a teenager. I am sure most of us would not the world to draw lifelong conclusions about us based on our teen years.
There should have been an ethics investigation as to what happened to you. But most likely that will never happen. 60 Minutes should have covered this, but then again 60 minutes should have covered the JUdge John Mott and Brenda Mott story too. But they didn't.
I don't know Judge Smith so I can only go by what the paper wrote.
I am more interested as to why an 18 year old was not immediately
locked up for supplying cocaine to minors. Supposedly his hearing was Nov. 13th. ANyone hear anything.
Unfortunately there is only flag etiquette. You can burn it, fly it under a Mexican flag , etc. etc. There are NO laws protecting the dignity of the flag. There are only those who will make you buy mandatory health insurance under the threat of fines, prison and I guess ultimately a gun, who fell that burning the American flag as a protest is a wonderful thing. Congressman Carney disguests me as does Senator Casey. ONly Sen SPecter , at this time, has not taken a position on mandatory health insurance. Should Bill Gates be forced to buy health insurance? Why? You think that he will get sick
go to the emergency room? So if Bill Gates should not have to buy
health insurance why me? Or do I have to prove my wealth?
I suggest that Americans fly the American flag at half mast while our goverment mocks our dead soldiers by taking away our constitutional rights! Forcing Americans to buy health insurance under threat of fines and jail. This is not America. This is a slap in the face of every veteran both living and dead.
