ATHENS TWP. - A conditional use permit for a facility to treat waste water generated by the natural gas drilling industry in the Valley Industrial Park in Athens Township was denied by the Athens Township Supervisors following a recent public hearing.
On a motion by Supervisor E. Maurice Fay, seconded by Jack Walter, the supervisors voted unanimously to deny the conditional use application.

TOWANDA - Bradford County will purchase the 11,000 square-foot, three-story Valley Wood Works building in downtown Towanda, which will be used to house the Towanda District Court, the Bradford County Penn State Cooperative Extension office, the Bradford-Wyoming County Literacy Program office, and two county offices, the Bradford County commissioners announced Thursday.
The Bradford County commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to purchase the building for $140,000.

TOWANDA - The chairman of the Bradford County commissioners stated unequivocally on Thursday that there will not be an increase in the county property tax this year.
In addition, the Bradford County commissioners on Thursday approved $65,000 in grants, which are funded by room tax money.
At their meeting on Thursday, the commissioners also approved the hiring of an Imler, Pa., company to design and construct a Web site for the Bradford County Manor.

The Bradford County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program invites non-profit agencies to apply for project funding through the program, according to a press release from county's Office of Community Planning & Grants.
There will be a public meeting at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Bradford County Commissioners' conference room. All applicants must attend and present their project. Eligible projects must meet one of three objectives set forth by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). These objectives are:

Chinese auction raises money
Canton High School senior Erica Route's recent Chinese auction to help raise money to purchase a digital projector for the Rialto Theatre in Canton yielded $350, she said.
She was happy with the amount. "It was a good start."
The equipment would allow the theater to play DVDs at events such as private parties, and also to show small clips of businesses before the movie as large movie houses do. She is planning some more fundraisers, such as an X-Box gaming night. It's for her senior project.

Scoville-Meno seeks local support for troop care packages
Families and businesses in the Valley are being asked by the Scoville-Meno Family of Dealerships to support troops today and tomorrow by bringing in items for care packages, according to a press release from Scoville-Meno.
People can bring in items between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. today and Saturday to Scoville-Meno Dodge, 102 Spring St. in Sayre, the release stated. Additionally, on Saturday there will be a craft table in the showroom for children to make cards to be sent with the care packages, and people can also send well-wishes with pre-made cards, according to the release.
