AASD seeking proposals for potential SRU parking lot work

The Athens Area School District will be seeking proposals for repaving work in the SRU Elementary parking lot, as well as some more minor upkeep on the lots of the Valley campus.

Although officials are hoping that the work can be completed this summer, Superintendent Craig Stage said they will only move forward if the cost isn’t too high.

“We’re always trying to keep our facilities up to a quality standard for the safety of all, and our building at SRU is an old building and the parking lot has aged with it,” said Stage. “ ... You can only do so many patches before you just have to really tear it up and start over. We’re trying to be cost effective and find specific spots that need to be addressed immediately and find spots that need patching, so not necessarily paving the full area.”

With the Valley lots, he said there are few areas in need of immediate addressing, although overall they are in much better shape than at the SRU property.
