New plan to allow AAHS students to bring the technology home

Clint Nichols, the Athens Area School District’s director of information technologies, shows off one of the new Lenovo laptops that will be introduced to ninth graders along with an insurance plan he developed that will allow students to take these laptops home and, if parents buy into it for all four years, take them to college. Insurance rates range from $10 to $30 a year for a single student and $20 to $50 a year for families, depending on eligibility for the free and reduced lunch program. “It covers everything except for outright taking the laptop and throwing it down the stairs,” Nichols explained to the school board Tuesday. Although the first repair is free, he said each subsequent repair will be subject to an increasing deductible.
