Valley Relief Council gearing up for annual fundraiser

The marquee of the Sayre Theatre after the devastating flood of September 9, 2011 reflected the community attitude to fix and repair the damage that the Susquehanna River had brought. The Valley Relief Council was formed within a week of the flood and has been in continuous operation since then. After two years of fixing flood damaged homes, the VRC shifted its priority to assisting veterans, senior citizens and disabled individuals through its Home Safety Program. On Sept. 9, eight years and a day after the 2011 flood, the VRC will recognize the 8th Anniversary of the flood with their annual fundraising event at Beeman’s Restaurant on Elmira Street in Athens Township. The special pasta buffet will run from 5 to 8 p.m. that day, but advanced tickets must be purchased by this Friday at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital cafeteria, the Sayre Public Library or at Carl’s News Stand on Desmond Street.
