Winner still unclear in tight Herschel-Friedenberg primary

With 100 percent of precincts reporting as of Wednesday afternoon, the outcome of the 12th U.S. Congressional District Democratic primary between Judy Herschel of Susquehanna County and Marc Friedenberg of Centre County was still too close to call.

Since the first publication of the full return at 3:45 p.m., the Associated Press has yet to identify a winner.

From the 25,253 unofficial Democratic votes from across the redrawn 15 county district, Friedenberg currently has a 223 vote lead. However, there is a chance that Herschel could still win the primary once provisional and absentee ballots are taken into account.

The winner will go on to face incumbent Republican Tom Marino, who is seeking a fifth term in office.

Marino beat primary challenger Doug McLinko, a long-time Bradford County commissioner, 39,788 to 19,544 on Tuesday.
