Yaw receives hellbender recognition

State Sen. Gene Yaw’s (R-23) was recently recognized by Lycoming College and the Pennsylvania Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Student Leadership Council for his sponsorship of a student-crafted bill that led to the eastern hellbender being name the official amphibian of Pennsylvania. The bill represents the commonwealth’s dedication to a clean watershed – the hellbender’s habitat – especially in the interest of the Chesapeake Bay downstream. Yaw, at right, is pictured with Lycoming College President Kent Trachte. The hellbender is north America’s largest salamander and the college’s unofficial mascot.
