Simple assault

Ashley White, 33, of Towanda is facing simple assault related charges following an incident on Route 6 in Towanda on July 7.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to the residence for a reported domestic violence incident. White is accused of biting and scratching a victim during an altercation.

White is facing charges of misdemeanor simple assault in the second degree and summary violation harassment.

White has a preliminary hearing on July 17 with Magisterial District Judge Todd Carr.

Monroeton indecent assault

Michael Hackett, 41, of Towanda is facing indecent assault related charges following incidents in Monroeton from 2015 to 2017.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the Pennsylvania State Police investigated inappropriate sexual touching of a victim who was four years old to six years old during the incidents. Hackett is accused of touching the victim while the victim’s mother was asleep during the two year time span. Hackett declined to come to the Pennsylvania State Police for an interview regarding the allegations, according to the affidavit.

Hackett is facing 10 counts of misdemeanor indecent assault person less than 13 years of age and 10 counts of misdemeanor indecent assault without consent of other in the second degree.

Hackett has a preliminary hearing on Aug. 28 with Magisterial District Judge Todd Carr.

Aggravated assault

James Gaitings, 52, of Towanda is facing aggravated assault and resisting arrest related charges following an incident on the Towanda Memorial Bridge on July 7.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Towanda Borough police were dispatched to the bridge after receiving a report of a man asking where the police had gone and to not tell them that he was there. Upon making contact with the man, he was identified as Gaitings who had active warrants. While troopers attempted to detain Gaitings, he is accused of resisting arrest and being unaffected by taser deployment. After an altercation, Gaitings was detained and brought to the Towanda Guthrie Memorial Hospital for injuries.

Gaitings is facing charges of two counts of felony aggravated assault in the second degree, felony flight to avoid apprehension/trial/punishment in the third degree, two counts of misdemeanor simple assault in the second degree, two counts of misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person in the second degree, misdemeanor resist arrest/other law enforcement in the second degree, misdemeanor disorderly conduct engage in fighting in the third degree, two counts of summary violation harassment and summary violation public drunkenness and similar misconduct.

Gaitings is in the Bradford County Correctional Facility on $75,000 bail and has a preliminary hearing on July 17 with Magisterial District Judge Todd Carr.

Athens drug possession

Chelsea Cole, 34, is facing drug possession related charges following an incident at a gas station on South Main Street in Athens on June 22.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Athens Borough police were dispatched to the gas station for the report of multiple individuals asleep in a green Ford Mustang. Athens Borough police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle that was pulling out of the gas station. Upon questioning Cole and two passengers, a search was conducted on the vehicle. Drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle including scales, needles, and small plastic bags wrapped in a bundle.

Cole is facing charges of misdemeanor intentional possession of controlled substance by per not regulation, misdemeanor use/possession of drug paraphernalia and summary violation driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

Cole is in the Bradford County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail and has a preliminary hearing on July 16 with Magisterial District Judge Larry Hurley.

Indecent assault

Cody Brian, 26, of Towanda is facing rape and indecent assault related charges following an incident at a hotel on Route 220 in Towanda.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched after a report of a woman screaming for help in the establishment. Troopers found the victim with blood coming from her nose and mouth. The victim related that a tall man with a maroon shirt followed her into the restroom, punched her in the face multiple times, stuffed his shirt in her mouth and then pulled her shirt up. Hotel staff recognized the description of the man as Brian and he was seen on camera following the victim into the restroom before leaving the restroom with no shirt on. The maroon shirt was found in Brian’s room by state police and he provided a written statement admitting to the crime. According to the affidavit, Brian stated he did it because he was lonely and wanted to feel her chest.

Brian is facing charges of felony criminal attempt — rape forcible compulsion, misdemeanor disorderly conduct engage in fighting in the third degree, misdemeanor simple assault in the second degree, misdemeanor indecent assault forcible compulsion and summary violation harassment — subject other to physical contact.

Brian is in the Bradford County Correctional Facility on $200,000 bail and has a preliminary hearing on July 17 with Magisterial District Judge Todd Carr.
