Ella Mae Lundy, 88, of 603 William Street, Towanda, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 2019 at the Guthrie Memorial Personal Care Home where she had been a resident for the past 10 years.

Ella Mae was born in Towanda, on June 11, 1930 the daughter of Burleigh Lee Roof and Effie Whipple Roof. She was a graduate of Towanda High School. Ella Mae was raised on the family farm at Standing Stone and enjoyed helping her Dad caring for the animals. Following graduation from high school, Ella Mae went to work for the W.T. Grant Department Store in Towanda and Sayre. She then moved on to become a well-known Tupperware representative in the area. Ella Mae always maintained a pleasant professional image by her choice of clothing, scarfs and jewelry. She was well-known in her community as a volunteer with the Memorial Hospital of Towanda Auxiliary, and the Wysox Volunteer Fire Department. Ella Mae was a faithful and active member of the Standing Stone United Methodist Church and was a dedicated financial supporter of various charitable organizations. Ella Mae loved gardening, hard work, and spending time with family and friends. She traveled throughout the country and especially enjoyed trips with her nieces and nephew. During the past 10 years, Ella Mae enjoyed daily activities of the Personal Care Home and especially enjoyed the monthly scheduled trips, special programs and holiday celebrations provided. Her nephew, Gerald and niece, Colleen visited her regularly and took her many places, however, it was “her girls,” staff members of the Personal Care Home, who were her special friends during her time as a resident.

Ella Mae is survived by her sisters, Sarah (Tom) Cornell of Binghamton, New York, Joanne (Roy) King of Natchez, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Roof, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Ella Mae was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Lundy; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy J. and Francis G. Taylor and brother, Robert B. Roof.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Standing Stone United Methodist Church with Rev. William Westbrook, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Standing Stone Cemetery.
