Kenneth Charles Edsell, 76, of Sayre, passed away at home on Monday, May 20, 2019.
Ken was born June 10, 1942 in LeRaysville, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Wyalusing High School in 1961. He started work as an owner/operator at Dairyman’s League in Camptown, Pennsylvania, then drove truck for Dairylea for many years (during which his girls loved riding with him in his Kenmore and enjoyed ice cream from the back of his truck). Ken drove truck for Coyne Textile Services, the U.S. Postal Service, Douglas Brothers Paving for many years and drove vehicles for Stateline Auto in his later years. He always enjoyed driving and worked tirelessly and quietly well into his mid-70s to provide for his family. Ken played softball for years at Quinlan’s Ball Park and was known as a fierce opponent on the pitching mound. He and wife Sandy enjoyed square dancing at Fraley’s and riding snowmobiles and motorcycles with friends. As his health faded due to complications from COPD, he relaxed watching the Yankees and sitting in his favorite chair. He took pride in his home and yard and mowed his yard up to the end. His greatest accomplishment was his children and grandchildren, and he was a constant and steady presence at graduations, birthdays, musical performances and sporting events.
Ken is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra (Hawley) Edsell; children, Lisa Young (Dave), Leslie Morris (Jonathan Wehrung) and Kendra Babcock (John); grandchildren, Derek and Connor Young, Sierra Morris, John Junior, Kassie, Jase, Kaylie Babcock; sister, Elinor Watson (Charles); brother, Walter Edsell Jr. (Kay); along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Walter Edsell Sr. and Nellie Benjamin Edsell; infant daughter, Lauren Anne; his brother, Edward Edsell; and half-siblings, Robert Williams and sister, Anna Bowen.
