M. June King Slocum, 85, wife of the late George Slocum passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at the Robert Packer Hospital from complications following surgery.

June was born, March 21, 1933, in Ulster, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Luther R. and Dorothy (Overpeck) King. June graduated from Ulster High School in 1951, where she enjoyed being in plays and cheerleading. June married George W. Slocum on Feb. 23, 1952, and had 39 wonderful years together before his passing on Feb. 5, 1991.

June is survived by her children, Randall (Phyllis) Slocum of Millville, Pennsylvania, Kathy (Roger) Wolstenholme of Luther’s Mills, Christy (Philip) Daly of New Port Richie, Florida, and George Slocum II of New Jersey; grandchildren, Randall Slocum II (Andrea Stackhouse), Andrew Slocum, Brett Slocum, and Brad Slocum (Jenna Brokenshire), Heidi (Jason) Monro, Kristopher Wolstenholme, Amy (Corey) Dean, Dr. Kari (Ronald) Wood, Kelly Daly (Lonnie Cobb), Jeff (Lisa) Daly, Lisa (Dave) Steffey, Charlotte, George III, and James Slocum; and 24 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Hannah King, Burton Parks, Doris Elliott, Evert Slocum, Annabelle Lamb, John and Sharon Slocum, Joann and Gary Goodstall, and Shirley Slocum.

She was predeceased by sisters, Betty (Rodney) Wilkinson, Jean (Gerald) Place, and Joan Parks; brothers, Edward King and William King; close nephew, Jerry Dick Place; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marguerite (Donald) Cook, Marie (Clifford) Gowan, Lois (Frank) Watrous, Jane (Francis) Chaffee, Joyce (Clair) Nickeson, Doris Slocum, Elmer Slocum, Harold Elliott, and Roger Lamb.

June became a member of the Luther’s Mills United Methodist Church on April 4, 1961, where in her early years, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. June was communion steward and also loved planning and working at the church suppers. She also enjoyed reading a Christmas story to the children at church along with passing out gifts to them relating to the story. June was a member of the Luther’s Mills Ladies Auxiliary. She was a previous member of the Mayflower Grange and was on the bowling team. She loved her family, gardening, and flowers and traveling with her sister-in-laws. Her request was that there be no visitation. Her funeral will be held at the Luther’s Mills United Methodist Church, Covered Bridge Road, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, with Pastor Pamela Wright officiating.
