Connor Davidson went 3-for-5 and the Athens minor’s baseball all-stars defeated Berwick 14-8 in the opening round of sectionals Tuesday.

Davidson’s day at the plate included two doubles, 4-RBI and three runs scored as his teammates racked up 17 walks to just five for Berwick.

It was how they were able to score 14 runs on four hits and also how they survived being out hit 9-4 on the night.

Duncan Thetga led the team with four walks while also getting one hit, 2-RBI and a run scored.

Alex McQuay scored a run and knocked one in while Cartyr Cockcroft also had an RBI.

Kam Wheeler, Sam Cheresnowsky and Eli Hicks all scored twice while Brycen Wood, Graham Wanck and Lucas Shultz also crossed home.

Thetga started and went 3 2/3-innings, striking out three while allowing two walks, three hits and two unearned runs. He scores the win.

Hicks went an 1 1/3-innings, allowing one walk, three hits and three earned runs.

Wanck finished out, striking out one with two walks, three hits and three runs, one of which was earned.
