BLOSSBURG — North Penn-Mansfield used a 24-point second quarter to pull away from Troy 34-7 in NTL Division-I football action Friday.

“The defense played well,” Panther coach Tom Dickinson said. “With three Troy turnovers they gave us a short field often.”

NP-Mansfield led in first downs 15-4 and had a 436 to 203 advantage in total yards.

They also got a big night out of Brent Burleigh, who was 14-for-24 for 250 yards and two touchdowns. He hit six different receivers on the night with Dylan Meyer (3-catches, 105 yards) and Sawyer Freeman (4-catches, 43 yards) as his main targets.

NP-Mansfield got on the scoreboard first as Kevin Alexander hit a 26-yard field goal with 9:25 left in the opening quarter.

Alexander hit another field goal, this one 20-yards, with 9:14 left in the half to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead.

“Getting those two field goals to start, getting points, was key,” Dickinson said.

NP-Mansfield’s offense then got jump started with a 75-yard scoring hook-up of Burleigh to Meyer. Alexander hit the point after and NP-Mansfield led 13-0 with 7:04 left in the half.

After a Troy turnover David got a two-yard touchdown pass from Burleigh. Alexander hit the point after and the Panthers led 20-0.

A Kolb nine-yard touchdown run with 1:49 left in the half, followed by an Alexander extra point, gave the Panthers a 27-0 lead.

Troy got on the scoreboard in the ensuing possession thanks to a Bailey Cohick 37 yard touchdown run. Seldon Rogers hit the point after and the Trojans cut the deficit to 27-7 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter David added a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth. Alexander’s point after was good and with 2:58 left NP-Mansfield made it a 34-7 final.

The Panthers travel to CV next Friday while Troy hosts Towanda.
