MANSFIELD — Mansfield saw eight different players combine for 13 hits as they defeated Niagara 11-5 to stay alive in the NYCBL divisional playoff round Thursday.

The win evens the 3-game series with a winner-take-all game in Niagara at 6 p.m. today.

Niagara was on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the second. Mansfield answered with eight runs in the bottom half of the second plus third and fourth to take a 7-run lead.

The Power cut into that lead with three in the fifth and a run in the sixth — making it 8-5 — but a 3-run seventh by the Destroyers sealed the deal.

Austin Schmitt had the big bat for Mansfield, going 3-for-4 with a double, 2-runs and 2-RBI while Colton Evans (2-for-4), Devan Nail (2-for-5) and Eric Feliz (2-for-5) all had multi-hit games.

Feliz had a double, 3-RBI and a run scored, Nail had a double with a run scored and Evans knocked in two runs.

Pat O’Neil had a double with a run scored while Tioga grad Pierce Hendershot had a hit with a run scored.

Grant Vera and Tim Carroll rounded out Mansfield’s hitters. Both scored twice with Vera also knocking in a run.

Kyle Smith started and earned the win for Mansfield, going seven innings to striking out five while allowing 10 hits, one walk and three earned runs.

Mansfield high school graduate Kipp Hillson tossed the final two innings, allowing just a single hit.
