Miller stars again for Utica

Waverly grad Peyton Miller had another huge game for Utica football on Friday, with nine catches for 89 yards.

Miller had a long of 34 yards and he attempted one pass in the game and had one carry for seven yards.

Utica lost their first game of the year 23-20 to RPI in overtime.

Miller has 32 catches in three games this year.

Smith helps lead SU XC

The No. 10 Syracuse men's cross country team won the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational for the third-straight season, taking six of the top nine places to handily win the event, while the No. 23 women finished second behind No. 12 Penn State.

Pack running got the Orange to their second meet win of the season on the men's side. Iliass Aouani (25:41) finished second overall to lead the Orange through the 5.2 mile course. He was closely followed by teammates Kevin James(25:44), Noah Affolder (25:51) and Joe Dragon (25:51), who finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Towanda graduate Simon Smith rounded out the 'Cuse scoring with a seventh place finish (26:08), while Dominic Hockenbury piled on a ninth-place finish (26:22) for good measure. Stephen Schulz placed 36th overall as well.

NEB grad Ellis leads ESU

Competing in a meet which totaled over 900 runners across four races, East Stroudsburg University's men's and women's cross country teams each registered strong seventh place showings to begin their seasons at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.

The Warriors placed seventh out of 41 schools in the men's varsity race, and they were seventh out of 45 in the women's varsity competition.

Sophomore Casey Ellis, an NEB grad, had the top individual performance on the afternoon, as he crossed the line 20th out of 295 runners with an 8k time of 25:42.77. Ellis was ESU's top finisher in five of his six meets during his debut season last fall.

Doud places sixth

Williamson graduate Madden Doud finished sixth for Misericordia a the Cougar Classic on Saturday.

The Cougars had 46 points to finish just behind Scranton, which had five runners in the top 12 and finished with 44 points.
