WYALUSING - A first inning run held up as Southern Tioga held on to beat RTL 1-0 in District 15 Majors baseball championship action Sunday.
RTL won the first game 4-3 but with Southern’s win they will play a winner take all game on Tuesday in Mansfield at 6 p.m.
Cooper Shaw scored the lone run in the game off an Andy Herman triple while teammate Alex Davis nearly went the distance in the shutout win.
He pitched 5 2/3-innings, stopping only when he hit the pitch count limit, to strike out nine. He allowed two hits, two walks and hit two batsmen.
RTL came close to scoring in the fifth and seventh, getting runners in scoring position. Especially in the seventh, when they had runners on second and third with one out.
After Davis got a strikeout on his final batter Shaw came in. He walked the bases loaded on his first batter but struck out the next to get the save.
Tayton Strange had two hits for RTL as Davis, Herman, Easton Pequard and Cody Wagner also had hits.
Hunter House was valiant in the loss, going the distance to strikeout eight. He allowed six hits and no walks.
House also had a double in the game with Logan Norton getting their other hit. Jacoma Vanderpool reached base three times - a walk, an error and was hit by a pitch.
Athens 7, Towanda 1
TOWANDA - A 5-run third inning gave Athens the win in District 15 Minors baseball winner’s bracket action.
Towanda will now face Wellsboro on Tuesday with Athens awaiting the winner.
Connor Davidson was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI to lead Athens while Kamdyn Wheeler (2-for-4) and Alex McQuay (2-for-4) also had multi-hit games.
Wheeler scored a run with McQuay knocking one in.
Duncan Thetga had a double with 4-RBI with Zach Fisher and Graham Wanck each getting a hit. Fisher also scored.
Sam Cheresnowsky scored twice as well.
Thetga started and went four innings to get the win, striking out 10 with two hits and one walk.
Eli Hicks tossed the final two innings, striking out three with one walk and one unearned run.
Gage Evans and Boom Thompson had the two Towanda hits with Evans scoring their run.
Graham Welles started and went 2 2/3-innings, striking out three with two walks, five hits and five earned runs.
Thompson pitched the next 2 1/3-innings, striking out three with one walk and two hits.
Bradley DiCulpillo went the final inning, allowing one hit, two hits and two unearned runs.
Wellsboro 9, Sayre 1
SAYRE - Wellsboro earned a District 15 Junior baseball win Sunday in a game continued from Saturday as it was postponed.
Wellsboro will have a chance to claim the district title today.
Will Kibier had a triple with three runs scored for Wellsboro while Andrew Merriman also had a triple with a run scored.
Caden Smith had a hit with Cameron Brought and Blake Levindoski both scoring runs.
Brought got the win.
For Sayre Zack Garrity had a triple with a run scored as Garrett Thetga also had a hit.
